Do you remember some of your firsts?
Your first kiss? Your first love? Your first job? Your first marriage?
Your first house? Your first child? Your first car?
I had all the above firsts in China except the last one. After all, the first 30 years of my life were spent in China.
I did have my first bike as that was the main transportation for me back then.
My first kiss was given to my first love. I was 19 years old and he was 20. It was a bit awkward as he was nervous too. He looked like Richard Gere in Pretty Women. In my young innocent mind, the first love should be the last love also, at least that I wrote in his little graduation book: 两颗真诚的心,一种永恒的爱!
My first job is also the only job I had in China, from 1988 to 1997, working as a government worker.
My first marriage started in Jan. 1989 in China and ended in April 2004 in Canada. We grew apart as partners but I am forever grateful for that marriage because of My Wonderful Children.
My first two-bedroom apartment was given to me...for free after eight years of services. In other words, if I still live in China. I don't have to pay a penny for the place I live, except hydro.
Incredible, isn't it?
My first child is Wendy Liu. She brought so much joy into my life and because of her, I started writing for newspapers and magazines and most of which even got published 🥰
Here are a few of my Bicycling Stories.
