I wasn't that active on LinkedIn before 2020. Since I lost my job this January, by reading and chatting with people, I started to realize the importance of connections. One book mentioned the magic # of 500 because all you see is a + sign after you hit that target, The author is an expert in the field so I followed his advice. I reached that magic number in a matter of one or two months. I did have a good base number but I just didn't do anything about it, I was very passive.
In May, I focused on LinkedIn Learning. My August focus is networking and I decided to build up some relationships among those 583 connections. My goal is to make at least 10% of it more meaningful. I will check their profiles, websites or blogs in great detail, I will seek advice and wisdom, or find common ground to connect more.
I reached out to a fellow participant during a workshop session. We met on Zoom a few times after. She applauded my daily blog and I admired her knowledge and insights. We decided to keep our communication channel open and we will update ourselves with each other on a regular basis.
I believe that communication is the key to grow any relationship.
Her name is Chesline Pierre-Paul. She became a mentor and a friend. A perfect example of what I mean by making my connections more meaningful.
Your network is your net worth. How are you going to invest in it?
