Networking is what I write about on Thursdays. I refect on anything related to that subject.
In the 2019 June issue of Toastmasters magazine, I came across an article by Maureen Zappala with the title I borrowed for this entry and I echo the message: "the business of business is relationships; the business of life is human connections." Robin Sharma.
Maureen was also one of the top 8 of this year's Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking. I connected with her after listening to her contest speeches. We talked to each other on LinkedIn a few times. I told her that she was one of my top 3 choices.
She wrote about the techniques to try when networking is not working. Of course, she promoted that fabulous organization called Toastmasters. She praised the wonder of TM's unique club setting, where many meaningful relationships were formed and flourished, including friendship, even marriages. What she said was a true reflection of my own TM experience. We had members who came from the following relationships: mother/daughter, husband/wife, brothers, and sisters. We had people fall in love and become lovers through learning and growing experiences. I have made many wonderful friends myself along the journey. Attached is an example.
I agree with the author that people are wired for relationships, Both quantity and quality matter. I take the following message to heart and use it as my guideline.
"Make daily efforts to stay in touch, reach out and engage with others, and you will enjoy a more satisfying life for your efforts".
Thank you Maureen for such a meaningful article!
