I created the category "Reading" when I started this blog, today I decided to write a weekly entry called "Book of the week". Most books will be audio ones. I totally agree with this notion: listening is the new reading.
I just finished this audiobook: This Year I will...How to finally change a habit, keep a resolution, or make a dream come true. by M.J. Ryan. It is a delightful read. Even though the book was published in 2006, the topic/subject remains present and her advice is timeless.
It was narrated by the author herself and it is full of wisdom. What I love the most are the top 12 ways she proposed to keep your resolutions. Top of those as illustrated on the cover of the book is: lose weight, stop smoking, change jobs, get organized, get out of debt, fall in love, work less, enjoy life more, start exercising.
She explained the 12 ways (bold ones are my favorite) in great details in her book and on her website:
Make it nonnegotiable
Make it actionable
Come up with solutions for your usual excuses
Use procrastination to your advantage
Schedule it in
Do it daily
Monitor your behavior
Focus on the horizon
Take it one choice at a time
Find someone who is doing what you want and imitate them
Teach it to someone else
Treat yourself kindly
"When we treat ourselves with kindness, we don't collapse into shame or guilt but can try again with greater wisdom for having faltered".
Well said, M.J. Ryan. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Wow! You still have it after all these years? That’s amazing!
