A True Story or A Lie?

That is the theme for the meeting happening at 5:45 pm Tuesday, September 14.

The intriguing theme reminded me of a video project I enrolled my son in when he was little. It was a study conducted by Faculty of Education, McGill University, My son was six or seven years old. The study was about getting the children to tell two (or four) stories, one is real, one is not (something did NOT happen but could sound like something that did happen, with details and imagination). The participants were videotaped telling the stories while the researchers studied the kids' facial expressions and body language after the filming.

It was an easy process but the reward is an impressive $40.00 cash. I asked my daughter who is six years older, to help with his stories and share his profits.

My daughter was an excellent coach. She helped him with details of the stories so he could be a better storyteller (either a true story or a lie) to cloud the judgment of the researchers.

I remember that they had a disagreement on something during the process and my daughter drafted a contract for her brother in which he could NOT watch TV for a specific time and "if I break the contract, Wendy may or may not, according to her preference, practice rehearsing my stories with me, but will still earn $20.00 (or 2/1 of what I earn)".

That little contract is embedded in the attachment of this blog entry: Sweet Sixteen.

Am I telling a true story or a lie?
