I took a bus yesterday at 3:00 pm and I came back home tonight shortly after 9:00 pm.
I went to Ottawa to attend a welcome week event at work. It was my first time getting into the building where I was supposed to work if it were not for COVID since last April.
It was a short and sweet trip.
I was picked up by a friend whom I met in Edmonton but had not seen for 20 years since I left. We were joined by two other ladies at the Red Lobster. I did have a chance to see the other two when I visited Ottawa for the Tulips festival one time but that was a long time ago.
We enjoyed a night of chitchat over delicious meals. While I thanked them for the special treat, they were happy that I created this little opportunity for us to get together.
I took a stroll after checking into a spacious hotel with an amazing view. I located my office building before heading back to my hotel. It felt very assuring to finally be able to associate work with something tangible.
The day went by quickly with lots of activities. It was gratifying to meet people for the first time after working as colleagues for over a year. I hugged people, tried out my little cubicle with a standing desk, and played Jeopardy games after pizza lunch. I am also very proud that I got my first security pass as a government worker/public servant.
It was a very fruitful trip and I am looking forward to the next one...
