I moved from Toronto to Montreal in August 2004. I just realized that I had my first winter escape only in February 2015. By winter escape, I mean spending a week in the warm summer-like weather, where winter doesn't exist.
By writing this article, I also realized that I had my second winter escape in the same year of 2015, Christmas time to be exact. I ran away from a White Christmas in Montreal where there was usually plenty of snow around Christmas time. I had a blue Christmas (the tree was decorated with blue twinkling lights at the resort lobby) in Punta Cana, a beautiful tropical town in the Dominican Republic.
It started with a free continental breakfast buffet at the Montreal airport, all thanks to the privilege of being a prestigious Master cardholder (not me) of the National Bank. We definitely started our holiday on the right foot.
It was a seven-night all-inclusive resort trip, all paid by my generous then-boyfriend, now husband. It was our second trip together but our first Christmas.
I received a beautiful Swarovski jewelry set, a week of sunshine, and endless ocean. We watched exotic flamingos strolling on the resort premise. We played Scrabble and visited local souvenir stores. I danced Zomba by the ocean and we watched live entertainment at night.
I was amazed by the decorations made with all kinds of fruits. Quite an impressive scene at the dining hall each night.
Oh boy! I miss all those all-inclusive vacations and hope for their safe return very soon.
