I just had a truly special weekend, all thanks to the weekend special ✈️ 🚆🚕
An all-inclusive incredible trip to New York 🥰🥰🥰
Room, board, transportation (Uber and Subway) and various quality activities 👍👍👍
The invite came from my son on my birthday last month, he asked my availability for the Nov. 15-17 weekend and wrote "was thinking of flying you out to New York for your birthday. How does that sound?" 📧📧📧
I sent back a GIF saying "Great"🌞🌞🌞
I took a bus in front of the building after work on Friday for an evening flight ✈️✈️✈️
On Monday, I got on a morning flight and walked into work before 9 am 🏢🏢🏢
In between, I had a weekend full of blissful moments with my son and her girlfriend.
The word “blissful” conveys a sense of pure happiness, peace, and contentment, according to ChatGPT.
That is exactly how I felt for my time spent in New York 🗽🗽🗽
Those blissful moments made me feel truly grateful, hence this post 📝📝📝
On Monday morning, before I headed to the airport, my son's girlfriend Sasa asked: "What is your highlight of this trip?". I said: "well, the time spent with you guys".' That is true, but those highlights can also be broken down into these ten little moments:
A brief visit to the famous DUMBO flea market in Brooklyn where I saw a Christmas tree made with traffic cones as well as the beautiful Manhattan skyline 😊😊😊
A pleasant walk on the Brooklyn bridge under the warm sun with the crowd 🌞🌞🌞
A delicious dim sum in China Town, even though the wait was over 30 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it😋😋😋
An unforgettable outing to the concert, conducted by a 77-year-old John Adams who is also an accomplished composer. They played four pieces and in terms of the preferences, I am glad that I shared the same list with my son who I believe can be called a musician (not me 😆😆😆)
A sweet shopping trip to Google store where got my third souvenir with Google logo on since my son started working at Google (a jacket and a backpack are the other two which I barely used). It is Google cup this time and I am sure that I will be using it every day in office🍵🍵🍵
A tasteful bite of the hot steaming bagel from a pop-up famous bagel place with a special new cream cheese in the Central Park🏞️⛲🏞️
A leisure stroll in Central Park and a chit chat while sitting on the bench and watching the sailboats at the Conservatory Water. Our conversation touched on many topics, from childhood memories to next birthday adventures, I even got the definitions of "soul mate" from the Generation Z and when asked about it, I diverted the subject, as I wasn't sure I could answer it better 😉😉😉
An entertaining movie featuring Tom Hanks, watched from the comfort of living room couch 📺📺📺
A heartfelt talk about the future plans. Among them, I was proposed to come for a bike ride (66km) next May in New York. It sounds very interesting as it is similar to the Tour de Ile de Montreal. I suggested that they come visit Montreal whenever they want and they can stay at home with me 🏠🏠🏠
An unforgettable journey
I was thinking about the trip when I was in Morocco, so I brought them little souvenirs from there. They were very well received, and I got a hug from each of them plus a group hug🫂🫂🫂
It has been a while since I travelled alone so I wasn't at ease about the trip from the airport to their apartment in the middle of the night. I printed out the direction days before I left and asked the bus driver, subway staff and other passengers after I got off the plane. Without internet on my phone, asking for help was absolutely necessary. Fortunately, everyone I have encountered was so friendly and I finally made it home on my OWN. I was SO proud😀😀😀
I am an early bird, so I explored the city after getting up: On Saturday morning, I walked on the street close to their apartment. On Sunday morning, I took a walk along the Hudson waterfront, just ten minutes away from their apartment (which I didn't know), and admired the breathtaking city view. It felt like the perfect place to spend all my early mornings (If I were to live there of course) —so peaceful and soul-soothing. No wonder Sasa did much of her marathon training there 🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️🏃♀️➡️
Did I mention the steps? Day one = 32,656 (22.6 km), and day two = 28,107 (19.38 km). The last time I hit over 30,000 was during my trip to San Fransico, visiting my daughter with my sister in 2019🚶♀️🚶♀️🚶♀️
I am looking forward to their potential visit in February and my Broadway show when I visit them again. I only wish that my daughter could move to the same city so I could visit them all at once 🌠🌠🌠
