Travel Talk: A Poem about Travel

Updated: Mar 28, 2021

In this article: 7 Poems That Will Inspire You To Travel. I was a little surprised yet delighted to see that the first two poems were translated from Chinese, written by Chinese Poets from the Tang Dynasty. One was Li Bai (李白), the other was Du Pu (杜甫). They were the two most famous Chinese poets who have written many poems. I used to be able to recite many just from memory when I grew up.

I am citing one for this blog entry.

The poem titled: Traveling Again

I remember the temple, this route I've traveled before,

I recall the bridge as I cross it again.

It seems the hills and rivers have been waiting,

The flowers and willows all are selfless now.

The field is sleek, and vivid, thin mist shines,

On soft sand, the sunlight's color shows it's late.

All the traveler's sorrow fades away,

What better place to rest than this?

The poem has aroused my interest in searching for the original poem. I tried this site which included 1170 poems written by 杜甫 but I couldn't locate the exact poem being translated.

If you know just by reading the poem above where it is from. Please do let me know.

It is not from ourselves that we learn to be better than we are.’ – Wendell Berry
