Did you know that you can train yourself to think fast and talk smart?
Did you know that Toastmasters can be an excellent platform?
Did you know that Table Topics is a session dedicated to sharpening your impromptu speaking skills?
Stanford lecturer and entrepreneur Matt Abrahams is an expert on interpersonal communication. His TedTalk explains the ins and outs of impromptu public speaking.
There is also a longer version of that talk which one could learn a lot more through interactive games and exercises.
I watched both.
Here are some techniques on how to think fast and talk smart, found in his talks, on the internet, and in my thinking.🤔
Get out of your own way: Don't worry about doing well, giving the right answer, or having your feedback be meaningful or memorable. Just do it
Reframe the situation. Try to look at spontaneous speaking as an opportunity, rather than a challenge or threat
Leverage structure: make it easier to remember: past-present-future
Know your audience
Be attentive, focus, and live in the moment
Get enough shut-eye. Any lack of rest, relaxation, and/or excessive stress can seriously reduce the efficiency of your brain function
Read, read, read: The more you read, the smarter you become
Play games! Elevate is a great brain training app
Keep a diary or journal: if you think it, ink it.
Exercise your body as well as mind
