That was the title of an article I wrote in 2014 for McGill Toastmasters club's newsletter "Masters in Action". In that article, I spoke about the following four aspects:
My first time
Who helped me get there
My golden moment
From spectator to participant
Read the attached to see how I made the connection between the Olympics and Toastmasters.
When I look back on my journey, I realized that my experience with Toastmasters has always been very positive. I enjoyed it on the first day when I attended the meeting. I enjoyed it when I visited other clubs around the world as a guest (I did have the honor of attending meetings in Toronto, Las Vegas, and Beijing). I enjoyed it last Tuesday. I will enjoy it tonight.
Sometimes when I listen to news anchors or other speakers on TV or radio, I wish that I could be a little less of a Toastmaster. I noticed without fail, all the ehs, hms, and you know.
Once I listened to a TV interview with Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time and I could not believe my ears. He started almost every sentence with a "you know", to the point that I had to turn a deaf ear to what he was talking about.
I wish more people would learn about Toastmasters and work on themselves to become better communicators.
Join us to see how you can improve your communication skills by intentionally working on your weakness and overcoming those annoying speaking habits.
