Questions are a great way to get people's attention, don't you agree?
How did you feel on the day you left your home town?
What do you miss the most?
Should I stay or should I go? How long did it take you to decide?
In May 1997, I left Beijing, China, a city I worked and lived for almost ten years. My daughter was just turned five years old. I do remember what she said to my sister about going abroad. She painted a vivid picture of her coming back home a few years later with blonde hair and blue eyes, an image she saw on TV of foreigners.
I was sad to leave my family, my parents but I was also excited for the bright new future, even though it was full of uncertainty.
What do I miss the most? the familiar surroundings, the friends I have made, and the easy job with the government.
Should I stay or should I go? How long did it take you to decide? It didn't take me that long to decide. I left China for a family reunion, for adding a new family member (was indeed on my mind before I left and a year later, my son was born).
Those questions were asked in a weekly email about Toastmasters meetings. The theme for tomorrow is The day I left Montreal.
