"You have to get out there and connect with people. It is not called net-sitting or net-eating. it is called networking. You have to work at it." Ivan Misner
Covid-19 has shifted our reality from physical to virtual in many ways. One does not have to go out and connect with people. One can sit in the comfort of one's home and connect with others through Zoom, Facebook, or other social media platforms. What hasn't changed though, is that you still have to work at it, maybe even more so in order to be successful at networking.
Someone said: if it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.
To me, networking is of paramount importance.
My strategy is to reach out to five people and connect with more each week. I check their LinkedIn profiles, read their posts or articles, make comments, or strike up a conversation or two. It is good to keep the momentum of not losing contacts even though life does get busy sometimes.
Yesterday I went to see one of my mentors, an Employment Counsellor. We talked face to face (with a glass divider between us) for more than two hours, I also enjoyed walking under the autumn sun for 8.8 km both ways. I enjoyed more our stimulating conversations. Her words help steer me in the right direction and keep me on track.
What are the things that you find a way to do no matter what? What are the things that you find an excuse not to do?
