My Life in China (#12): The Family

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

I have a few photo albums which hold some past photos, photos from more than three decades ago.

Photos for this entry are just two of them.

Looking at those past photos from time to time brings back sweet memories.

Photo on top is my parents, my family, and my brother's family.

The photo at the bottom is the one with my sister's family added, plus my mother's sister, my aunt.

My parents, my aunt, are no longer with me in this world. Yet, I dreamed of them from time to time. Sometimes the images were so vivid, I felt that in another dimension, they have never left me.

My parents have three children. There is my brother, my sister and I am the youngest. Yet, we traveled the furthest. I and my children, no longer live in China. My son was born and raised in Canada. China might just be a concept for him, a distant dream maybe.

My brother's son, the boy in the top photo, became a dad two years ago.

My sister's daughter, the teenage girl in the bottom photo, has become a mother of two. My sister became a grandmother for a few years already.

My daughter, the little girl in the photo, will turn 29 next Tuesday.

Time flies, marriages change. My sister was divorced so was I. Today she is still single but I got married again.

My brother started dating when he just started college. I remember feeling ashamed because, in my young innocent mind, he should focus on studying.

Almost 40 years later, he is still with his high school sweetheart.
