My Life in China (2): English Corner

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

After I published my first entry about My Life in China. I got this feedback from my kids.

This is great mom! looking forward to the next post!

Amazing!! can’t wait to read more. Maybe don’t do the 1-minute deadline lol cause it kinda threw me off as I was getting into it.

Well, I do not want to break the 1-minute rule, not yet.

“A good speech should be like a woman's skirt: long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.” Winston S. Churchill

I enjoyed my experience as Chairperson at Toastmasters.

We had English Corner in China when I was in university and after graduation. I used to bike to participate in those activities held in a park called Temple of Heaven. They were well organized by enthusiatic English learners and some of us became friends.

The cover photo was from one event where we served as masters of the ceremony, that is why we all dressed up. Two gentlemen immigrated to New Zealand and two ladies are now in Canada. Ying lives in Toronto and I reconnected with her just before Christmas.

One gentleman who moved to New Zealand became a lawyer and a politician. At the beginning of his career, he worked for a newspaper as a journalist. He published a few photos of my daughter in the newspaper with the caption mentioning Temple of Heaven, even those photos were not taken there. His gesture was simply to recognize a wonderful time we had together.

The paper was published on my daughter’s birthday so I told her that was her birthday present from a nice uncle...
