I moved to Montreal from Toronto in 2004 to pursue my Master's degree in the School of Library and Information Studies. I worked at McGill during and after my studies. I was also employed in accounting firms.
When I was a student, I worked as a Student Coordinator at the Faculty of Law. I worked as a summer intern for the University Archives. I also produced the first newsletter as a work-study project for the Student Parent Network. After graduation, I helped the Chairperson's Assistant with her daily administrative task at the Faculty of Education. I took advantage of the location near Mont-Royal, so I often hiked up the mountain during my lunch break.
My favorite job was working as a Student Affairs Coordinator in the Faculty of Religious Studies (FRS)
I gained a lot from my job. Again, I also took advantage of my lunch break by enrolling in various classes. My proud moment was when I was appointed Faculty Ambassador at the convocation ceremony.
My office supervisor was a leader and a friend. She was always calm and firm at the same time, never critical, and always encouraging. I am very grateful for having worked under her.
They held small birthday celebrations for each admin staff at FRS. We even had the honor to attend a colleague's wedding at the faculty's chapel.
When my mom passed away in 2008, I received a beautiful plant at home from my colleagues along with a sympathy card signed by them. I also received chocolates and cards from others.
My time at FRS was my best employment experience. Looking back, it was truly my ideal job.
