Changing Your Habits One Step at a Time

That is the theme for our #1002 Toastmasters meeting tomorrow evening.

Here are some great questions asked by our VP of Education and my honest answers.

How long does it take until your new habit falls into autopilot mode?

I don't know. I just remember doing it each day and every day.

  • 10,000 daily steps: from Dec. 25, 2016

  • My daily blog: this entry is # 582.

  • InnterFrench: 2-3 episodes (30 minutes each episode) a day since last November

  • Duolingo: daily French learning, today is #368

Have you identified your triggers?

My trigger for steps and French podcast (killing two birds with one stone) happens normally three times a day: 7:00-7:30 (am), 12:00 to 1:00, and 6:00 to 7:00 (pm)

Do you have a tracking tool?

Fitbit for my steps. Both My Fabulous Blog and Duolingo have a built-in counter.

How many habits can you change at once?

I believe one at a time would work the best. I added two daily meditations this year and so far so good.

Is the fifth language you’re planning on learning really high on your priority list?

I think that is the question our beloved VP of Education asked herself. I am still using my blog mostly to work on my second language and using Innerfrench to work on the third.

Any favorite books on the subject?

I read "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg and I plan to read "Atomic Habit" by James Clear.
