Did you know laugher is the best medicine?
Did you know that shedding tears can be good for your health?
Did you know that that a good book can make you laugh and cry?
Tuesdays with Morrie was such a book. It was recommended by one of my mentors. She told me about the special effect that book had on her.
I was intrigued by her remarks, more so when I heard about the word "Tuesdays" in the title. I have been with Toastmasters on Tuesdays since the beginning of my journey (2003).
What did the author do on Tuesdays with Morrie?
It was a heartwarming uplifting story between the author and his college professor. Mitch rediscovered his college professor Morrie on TV one evening by chance and learnt more about his story. He decided to visit him after many years of no contact. Those Tuesday visits reshaped their relationship on a much deeper level and turned into one final "class": lessons in how to live.
The key message is: giving is living. (See the video of Oprah interviewing Mitch).
The book was first published in 1997 and a new edition with an afterword was released on the book's ten-year annversary in 2007. The unabridged audiobook I listened to was released in 2006 and it was narratied by Mitch Albom himself. He had this soothing storytelling voice and it did move me to tears at one point.
The film with the same time was aired on ABC in December 1999. One of the producers is Oprah Winfrey.
A profound message: giving is living.
Morrie: A teach until the end.
