"A riveting, deeply personal account of history in the making—from the president who inspired us to believe in the power of democracy".
It is named one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times Book Review.
I borrowed the audiobook from the library. I placed a hold on December 4 2020 and finally got my turn on September 30 this year. It is an audiobook of 29 hours and 10 minutes.
The book is due in 1 day and I have only read about 41%, 12 hours to be exact. There are 45 people on the waiting list and there are only 10 copies in the library collection.
I do have a hardcover copy at home. I still prefer listening to the book to reading it though. The president does have a pleasant voice. I liked the part the most when he talked about his personal life, not politics.
Here are a few lovely quotes from the book found online:
“To be known. To be heard. To have one’s unique identity recognized and seen as worthy. It was a universal human desire, I thought, as true for nations and peoples as it was for individuals.”
“But you don’t choose the time. The time chooses you. Either you seize what may turn out to be the only chance you have, or you decide you’re willing to live with the knowledge that the chance has passed you by.”
“over time I’ve trained myself to take the long view, about how important it is to stay focused on your goals rather than getting hung up on the daily ups and downs.”
“Whatever you do won’t be enough, I heard their voices say. Try anyway.”
