Do you use bixi?
Today I used it for the first time this summer.
It was my favorite way of traveling when I lived in the city. No need to worry about your own bikes being stolen and there are stations everywhere.
When my son was still in middle school/high school, I used Bixi when I attended the Parents' meeting. His school was far, it normally took him 45 minutes to one hour to get to school by metro plus bus each day. When summer meetings were scheduled, I used the bike on Sherbrooke and docked the bike at the last station on Sherbrooke, then walked 15 minutes to his school. It was quite a ride, I had to change bike halfway as the bixi membership only includes the first 40 minutes for free. In order to avoid additional changes, I had to return a bike before that and take a new one to continue my journey.
Another time, I walked home after a Toastmasters meeting with a friend who was pregnant. I didn't want to carry my backpack so I took a bike. We walked and chatted all the way to my home. It was longer than a 40 minutes walk but I didn't realize the time until I was almost home, then it took us for a while to find a station where I could return the bike (yes, it could happen often when a station has no space available). That is the only time I had additional charges on my account, only a few dollars contribution to the wonderful city project. I did subscribe for two memberships for a few years.
I love bixi. You?
