Apart, But Together!

At this Tuesday's Toastmasters meeting, we had the pleasure of welcoming 7 guests from different places (even countries) including Toronto, Ottawa, Binghamton (US), Plainview (US), Hessen (Germany), Among the guests, some of them know each other and they are competing with each other on visiting online clubs (my impression). I was super impressed with their enthusiasm. The gentleman from Germany attended a club meeting in Australia that morning and our meeting time was his midnight.

In August, I attended the 2020 World Champion of Public Speaking online convention, made free by Toastmasters International. I made a dozen connections (sometimes I sent out the request on LinkedIn right after I finished listening to their speeches). We welcomed three of the twenty-eight finalists to our club and they all delivered their top-notch speeches.

Also in August, McGill School of Continuing Studies hosted an event called PowerSkills 2020 Virtual Career Conference, it was a five-day jam-packed conference. The event was free but the value: priceless. I have learnt so much and I have connected with so many, with meaningful conversations continue still...

Since the global pandemic started, I had the chance to meet with my children a few times through Facebook video chat. Seeing them in the virtual world is not the same as seeing them in the physical world but it is the second-best alternative. The only difference is we are three hours apart.

Covid has made us apart but technology has brought us together. Even though I always prefer meeting in person, at this point, I would rather have the Zoom connection than not at all.

Apart, but together!
