This Friday marks the first full week of my new career adventure as an HR Assistant.
I was initially interviewed for a different job at Shared Services Canada but couldn't go further due to a lack of BBB in French.
I was pleasantly surprised when one of the interviewers reached out to me about the HR position. I was touched and I showed my enthusiasm.
I liked the idea that I didn't have to return the equipment if I got the job and the office is located in Montreal. The hiring manager also ensured me of no service break which gave me peace of mind for the holidays.
The official letter of the offer came while I was on Cloud Nine flying on a plane to San Francisco to visit my kids. It was also the first time I had a WiFi experience on a plane.
As for HR, I did want to get into that field more than ten years ago.
I even took some courses with McGill hoping to get an HR certificate and a job in HR after.
I gave up because of an accounting course I took and didn't like, which discouraged my endeavor.
Times flies. I didn't know that I was given a chance to get into the field with the government.
Last week was a short one, with only four working days and I had a lot of training.
Today I started and built my first file with the help of my trainer and a colleague.
It is a part of the process called Complex Staffing.
I enjoyed the process. I want to learn as much as I can.
My goal for the near future is to become an HR Advisor.
I know that I started late but I also know that if I keep going, I can still go far.
On a side note, I did a few other things this week:
Went swimming (450 and 500 meters) for two evenings
Walked and talked in French lunchtime with a neighbor: twice
Practiced French exam questions with another neighbor: twice
Had a French class, did a mock exam and the teacher said he would give me a B
Had a few phone conversations in French with friends
Watched a few Movies (en francais) and really like this one: Knock
It was indeed a fruitful 🍇🍉🍏🍎🍌week!
