Travel Talk: Charlevoix - A Beauty Next Door

Charlevoix is a beautiful cultural and natural region in the province of Quebec. The population is just over 13,000 yet it has tons of rolling hills and mountains along the St. Lawrence River. According to Tripsavvy: the landscape is actually the result of the impact of a massive meteorite that crashed down millions of years ago and created a deep crater nearly 60 kilometers in diameter.

If you look at the map, Charlevoix looks like a piece of a giant cake, or pizza, if you prefer.

September 5 to 7, 2015, five years ago, I tasted that cake for the first time and it is delicious.

It was our first romantic trip after I met Guy, the right "Guy" for me.

It was only a drive under 5 hours but the beauty of the region along the scenic driving routes is exceptional. We stayed in a cozy place called Auberge Fleurs de Lune, with the view of the river from the balcony.

We went for the whale watching and it was fun. It was a bit chilly even we were fully dressed in winter gear but we did see a few which made the ride worthwhile despite the chillness of the wind.

We stopped by the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in La Malbaie. It is a must-see beauty.

We visited the small towns that dot the region. They were the perfect places to shop. The architecture and regional charm are unique and some scenes are very picturesque.

I love my first visit and I wish I could go back again soon to revisit this next door beauty.
