Today is Mid-Autumn Festival and we Chinese people would have mooncakes as part of the meal, especially dinner.
Why mooncakes? What does the moon symbolize in Chinese culture?
In Chinese tradition, the full moon is a symbol of peace, prosperity, and family reunion. On the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, the moon is full and it is time to mark the Moon Festival, or the Mid-Autumn Festival. The round shape symbolizes family reunion.
I did try a bit of mooncake yesterday when seven of us gathered in the park to play cards and have lunch.
The photo from bottom left is one of the few photos taken at the gathering.
It might be the last time I join them during the week as I am returning to work tomorrow.
The fun will linger in my memory for sure.
Tonight's Open House is another happy event on this special day.
I promoted the event on social media. It has been viewed 141 times on LinkedIn.
We had at one point a total of 34 people in attendance.
The top photo is a little nice souvenir of tongiht's event.
The Chairperson/Madam Toastmaster is the same person. Our energy bomb Reem.
She is posed, energetic, eloquent and professional.
My speech went ok but I had to say: In person speech delivery would have more impact.
The bottom right photo is a little badge I received from Fibtit for an Award called Pole to Pole for the 20,003 lifetime kilometers I have walked since the beginning.
A nice little token of recognition, isn't it?
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, everyone!
