A Little Incident

I forgot my key in my office, AGAIN! It was not the first time, nor the second time.

It was the THRID time.

The first time, I realized it after I docked the bixi next to home, it was still the bright daylight, so not so bad, just felt a bit sorry for myself. Luckily, I worked in the office that is around 3 km from my home. It is walkable distance or a bike ride of 20 minutes šŸš²šŸš²šŸš²

The second time, I went to the office near Old Port which is about 4 km away. It was a very humid day, I might have switched my bag and didn't check the bag before leaving. After biking for about 30 minutes and docked the bike, I realized that I did not have the key. I was very frustratedšŸ˜ šŸ˜ šŸ˜ I wanted to reach out, but nobody has my key yet. I thought about taking the metro back and forth but didn't. I punished myself by biking back and forth for an hour to fetch my key from the office šŸ„µšŸ„µšŸ„µ

I thought that I would do something after about the KEY situationšŸ”‘šŸ”‘šŸ”‘

Then came the third time. I had an appointment. I switched my bag again like I do often, but I usually check my key before leaving work. That day, I forgot. The key didn't come to my mind at all until I got out of the metro and searched for my key in my bag.

I realized THEN that I did not have the key at all šŸ˜®šŸ˜®šŸ˜®

I dialed my lifeline, my neighbor, my dear friend, who happened to be on her way to her apartment which located in the same building that I live in.

The first words I could mutter was: "完äŗ†, 完äŗ†. I left my key in my office again, and I don't think I can get it back since it is after hours".

"You can stay at my place". She said in her usual calm voice. "don't panic" šŸ˜ŸšŸ˜ŸšŸ˜Ÿ

But I still wanted to try my luck at the office. The night was still young. I unlocked a bike and arrived work in 20 minutes. Luckily, I worked in the office that is 3 km away that day.

The result was the same though: the light was on inside the building but nobody at the front desk. My card didn't work either.

I called my friend and started paddling back. After I caught up with her, we walked back together šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøā€āž”ļøšŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøā€āž”ļøšŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøā€āž”ļø

There were still plenty of people on the street and the night was still young!

I was officially locked out of my home.

It was an interesting night. I stayed at the living room of my friend's newly renovated place. Nobody has lived since the renovation. The scent of the paint was still in the air. I could see the colorful lights from the bridge.

According to my watch: that night: I had only 22 minutes of deep sleep and 2 hours of light sleep. From 12:30 to 3:00, I was wide awake. I did my Duolingo and watched some short videos on WeChat. I practiced deep breathing over and over...

The morning after, I locked her place at 7:00 am and walked to the office in 40 minutes, did 20 minutes stretching, picked up my key, laptop and biked home before 8:30.

I decided to work from home that morning as I had to change clothes for that evening: my monthly dinner with friends.

The noise from the construction site irritated me. After taking a shower and a quick lunch,

I went back to my office near Old Port on a bike.

I wanted to say goodbye to a colleague in person as it was her last day, and we started with ECCC on the same day.

We hugged each other and wished each other well.

For less than 24 hours, I have experienced a lot. I found it quite amusing in the endšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

I might do something for real this time about my key.

Do you believe me???
