A Piece of Cake?

An idiom is a group of words in current usage having a meaning that is not deducible from those of the individual words.


They could add fun as well as confusion to language learning. Here are some sentences with idioms in the following four categories: Animal, Body, Colours, and Food.

  • Someone told me that Ben was the black sheep in his family.

  • He had to tell a white lie when was asked if he liked the CD she bought for him.

  • Angela passed that French language test with flying colors.

 
  • She wanted to be an apple of someone's eye so she picked Apple as her user name.

  • I thought I was afraid of flying but I was cool as a cucumber all the way to China.

  • The kids were full of beans after the circus.

  • Her daughter was one smart cookie as she reads well above her grade level.

  • You have to really use your noodle on this crossword puzzle.
